After graduating from Sunderland University with a BSc (Hons) in pharmacology, with postgraduate degrees in toxicology (MSc) and biochemistry and intensive care medicine (DPhil).
Damian began his career at Unilever where he was involved with the safety approvals of hair care products. He then moved on to work at two major CROs as a Study Director in genetic toxicology overseeing a variety of in vitro and in vivo study types. He was also actively involved in validation work for new study types. He has authored over 100 confidential reports and numerous conference posters and written about refinement, reduction and replacement of existing genotoxic animals models. His work has been cited by United Kingdom Committee on Mutagenicity (COM), EFSA, ECHA, OECD and ICH.
Married, with a young son and daughter (along with an old cat), in his spare time he enjoys the outdoors with his family (weather permitting) and works in a volunteer role with Yorkshire Ambulance Service as a Community First Responder and Trainer capable of administering basic life support, including cardio-pulmonary resuscitation and defibrillation. He is an Archers fan, history buff and avid supporter of Newcastle United, along with his children (much to the dismay of his wife!).
