A new EFSA scientific opinion has been published on the risk assessment of plant protection products for non-target arthropods. The opinion has proposals for exposure assessment, testing of effects, calibration of the lower tier risk assessments and the need to assess impacts at the landscape level. It is suggested that landscape risk assessment could be done with population models. Protection goals are proposed which aim to protect important ecosystem services such as food web support, pest control and biodiversity. New tests are also proposed to address exposure via oral uptake of residues and uncertainties related to differences in species sensitivity.
