The EU Commission has concluded its review of REACH to ensure the regulation covers the assessment of EDCs. It is understood that the EU executive does not intend to make further amendments to the review paper presented at the Competent Authorities meeting for REACH and CLP (week beginning 07/07/14), which will be transformed into a Commission Communication and published by the end of the year in the Official Journal. The paper suggests that companies applying for authorisation of substances on the candidate list for their endocrine-disrupting properties will only be able to go via the adequate control route if they can demonstrate a threshold exists.
The EU executive informed member states that it is preparing a public consultation on the EDC criteria, which it expects to complete early next year.
