The inspections under the enforcement project for biocides (BEF-1) started in January 2019 and will continue throughout this year. The inspections are focused on treated articles for consumer and professional use, especially on illegal use of non-approved active substances and compliance with the labelling obligations. The project is carried out in 28 EU/EEA countries.
The inspections under the enforcement project for REACH and the CLP Regulation started in March 2019 and will continue until autumn. Inspectors and customs authorities are working together to check whether imported products comply with certain restrictions under REACH regarding hazardous chemicals such as cadmium, nickel or lead. They are also verifying the required safety information on labels for chemicals products. The project is carried out in 16 EU/EEA countries.
The import of products found to be non-compliant will be stopped and these products will not be allowed to enter the EU market. The final report for the project under REACH and CLP should be available around mid-2020. The results of the project on treated articles and mixtures (BEF-1) will be published at the end of 2020.
