ECHA is preparing an awareness campaign as companies in many member states seem not to fully recognise the workload they face in preparing dossiers for substances in time to meet the last REACH registration deadline in 2018.
To raise awareness and share experiences in reaching out to smaller companies, ECHA has established a REACH 2018 communicators’ network, comprised of representatives of member states, industry bodies, including Cefic, Ueapme and the UK Engineering Employers’ Federation, and, via the Enterprise Europe Network, national chambers of commerce. Ideas under discussion include using social media to reach the partners and children of industry staff, and encouraging the trade press for the downstream sector to write articles about the issue.
To help registrants with the key challenge of substance identification, ECHA, together with industry, plan to publish by the end of the year sector-specific substance identification guidance and factsheets for complex substances, such as essential oils and inorganic pigments.
